Slaughter's support of ACA will benefit district
Letter To The Editor from MEL CALLAN
Maggie Brooks says repealing the Affordable Care Act, goes to “our core message.” The only argument Brooks can muster is the individual mandate penalty as a “tax.”
Rep. Louise Slaughter’s message is different: “It was never about politics — it was about … safe guarding the health and well-being of American families.”
She examined facts:
2.7 million New Yorkers lack health insurance. In the Finger Lakes, 46,000 adults ages 18-64 are ineligible for public insurance and cannot afford a commercial policy. In Monroe County suburbs, the number is 11,000.
Slaughter found support for families in the ACA:
The average cost of health insurance for individuals buying through a fully implemented exchange will decline by 70 percent. For small businesses, the average premium will drop by 21 percent.
For Slaughter’s district: 107,000 beneficiaries will have improved Medicare; 7,600 residents with pre-existing conditions will now have coverage; the list continues.
Slaughter has worked tirelessly for access to quality health care at an affordable price for our families
