You may be surprised to learn that the nine justices of the US Supreme Court are the only federal judges not bound by a code of ethics. As a result, Supreme Court justices have allowed their names to be used to promote political fundraisers, attended seminars sponsored by high-profile political donors, failed to report family income from politically active groups, and failed to recuse themselves when deciding cases where a conflict of interest exists.

Louise Slaughter’s bill, the Supreme Court Ethics Act, would require the Supreme Court to adopt the same ethical standards imposed on all other federal judges. More than 200 law professors have endorsed Louise’s effort and 150,000 Americans from around the country have signed a petition in support of her bill.
