Slaughter Says No Raise For Congress While Economy Still Lags

April 2010

Congresswoman Louise M. Slaughter (NY-28), Chairwoman of the House Committee on Rules, announced that the House had voted against giving members of Congress a pay raise next year. The vote comes just days after the Senate voted the same way and marks the second straight year that Slaughter and other House Democrats have voted against any cost of living increase for themselves.

“Too many of my constituents are still struggling so approving a raise for my colleagues would be the epitome of unfair.” Slaughter said. “Instead, I am proud that this Congress has moved aggressively to create jobs and new economic opportunities for millions of Americans and directed vital economic assistance to businesses and families across the country.”
