Slaughter Announces Stimulus Funds For Local Green Job Training

Congresswoman Louise Slaughter announced that workers in Erie and Niagara Counties will directly benefit from federal stimulus money awarded to train workers for the next generation of green energy jobs.

With funding through the Energy Training Partnership grant, local steelworkers will be trained as wind farm field technicians and maintenance workers, solar panel installers, or geothermal installers with part of the $4.6 million allocated to 4 states including New York.

And ironworkers in Erie and Niagara County will receive part of $1.9 million awarded to 5 states including New York for training in the renewable wind energy sector. The program will also place ironworkers on wind turbine erection projects.

“Preparing our workforce for the green jobs of tomorrow is so vitally important,” said Slaughter. “This is another example of the stimulus package investing in the next generation of jobs and I’m pleased that these federal stimulus dollars will be helping our workforce in Erie and Niagara Counties.”
