Slaughter Announces Over $962,000 in Federal Funding for Physical Education in Monroe County Schools

Rep. Louise M. Slaughter (D-NY-28), Ranking Member of the House Rules Committee, announced last week that the East Irondequoit School District and the Fairport Central School District have been awarded a combined total of $962,624 in federal funding for their physical education programs.

The funding will be administered by the Department of Education, through the Carol M. White Physical Education Program.

“Today, more children than ever are struggling with health consequences resulting from a lack of physical activity in their lives,” Rep. Slaughter said. “We need our schools to get kids outside and active again, so that good health will go hand in hand with a good education.”

The East Irondequoit School District will receive $461,647 to be used between September 20, 2006 and September 29, 2007.

The Fairport Central School District will receive $500,977 to be used between September 30, 2006 and September 29, 2007.
